Electrical Engineering

The Electrical/Electronic course was introduced in Michuki Technical Training Institute in the year 2010.The course was being offered in the Mechanical Engineering Workshop that had been renovated to serve as an Electrical Workshop at that time. The department by then had one TSC lecturer and one BOG lecturer with a humble number of 19 students at craft level. In the year 2011, Craft (TEP) and Diploma (TEP) classes were admitted thus increasing the student population from 19 to 53.

In the year 2012, the Kenya Institute of Education (KIE) by then now Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) changed the curriculum from (TEP) to (MODULE) program. In the same year, the institute was seconded to be a beneficially in the Economic Stimulus Project programs from the parent ministry. Under this program, two Electrical Installation Workshops, two Electronics Workshops, one Technical Drawing room and eight classrooms were constructed.

The department presented its first group of candidates for the Kenya National Examinations Council in the year 2012 under the TEP programme by then at Craft level. A year later, the department presented Diploma candidate under the same programme. This was a great achievement for the department and the institute as a whole. In 2014 the department introduced Artisan course.

With the good grades that the department has continued producing, there has been tremendous increase of student population in the department attracting students from as far as coast and north eastern of the country.

This has made the administration to invest heavily in the department in terms of Teaching /Learning materials. The Teachers Service Commission together with the TIVETA Authority has not been left behind since they have been very supportive in hiring of Trainers.

Currently the department can boast as the leading department in the institute in terms of students and staff population with a student population of 300 and 11 members of staff for the ever increasing student population.

The department has also started training on solar installation which is in line with vision 2030 of our country. The department has the latest equipment to train on solar and competent lecturer on the same.

This great achievement has been made possible by hard work and cooperation by members of the department, support from the associate departments, the administration, support staff and from the dedicated students.
